uBio is located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts which is home to several national and internation research organization. uBio is a component of the MBLWHOI Library that serves the library needs for the Marine Biological Laboratory and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).

Woods Hole is also home to the National Marine Fisheries Service. The US Geological Survey maintains a laboratory at the WHOI Quisset Campus. The Sea Education Association offers undergraduate programs in a semester at sea and the Woods Hole Research Center focuses on global ecosystem research.
